The electronics giant has recalled 415,000 battery packs used in various DVD players, camcorders and other devices.
This recall started with initial reports in Germany and then in Japan. It appears that during the production process there were problems with some cells that tend to overheat and smoke during charging.
The numbers for this recall are impressive, with 160,000 battery packs in the United States alone, distributed between March and June 1999. The impact on Sony’s image will not be small, but through proper management of this issue customers will feel supported and therefore the brand’s perception will not suffer damage.
