In the midst of the browser war between Microsoft and Netscape, the competing companies were releasing new versions of their browsers one after another. Recently, the war has been scaled down to a small skirmish. It has been almost a year since Netscape released version 6 of its browser, while Microsoft is only now shipping Internet Explorer 6. Unlike Netscape 6, however (and its update, the optimized 6.1), IE 6 is not a complete revision. This incremental update offers only enough new gadgets, including improved privacy features, to prevent an IE user from switching to Netscape 6.x, but its interface remains relatively unchanged. The only reason we can imagine why it even deserves the full version number 6 is its release in conjunction with Windows XP. For those who do not upgrade to Windows XP, whether you are IE 5.x or Netscape 6.x users, there is no need to rush to download this version.
